The Step UP Season
All Step UP participants voluntarily donate their time and creativity each weekend to better their community! Our talented artists work tirelessly to bring original outreach theatre to young audiences of San Diego. How does it happen? Glad you asked!
Development
Cast members and Associate Youth Artists all participate in the research and development of our season's show. Our training is two-fold:
- We receive training from community professionals! Professionals in theatre, elementary education, and community issues offer Step UP teenagers valuable skills such as self defense, improvisation, and what's happening in today's elementary schools.
- We train each other! Step UP Theatre functions under the belief that our first audience is each other. Through research and personal experience cast members prepare interactive presentations on issues such as bullying, the environment, media, youth empowerment, families, peer pressure and respect.
Writing & Rehearsing
Every single word of our show is written by the teen artists in our company! How do they do it? You'll have to be a cast member to find out. For information on Step UP AUDITIONS, stay tuned! OR, contact Director Wendy Maples.
OUTreachIN'
When our show is on it's feet, we begin our touring season, known to Step UP as OUTreachIN'! OUTreachIN' is our own unique formula of outreach, performance, education, and fun! Step UP Theatre will be touring elementary schools with our original play, "Step UP, Stand OUT" from January through July of 2011.
